In the Winner Show the judge was looking for a lighter type with more narrow head for the American Akitas. Äijä was too strong for the judge even though nobody else moved as great as Äijä did! The placement for the females went according to their development phase, they both got an Excellent which is great. A couple of dogs were absent because of lack of coat.
In the American Foxhounds Bob's prize went down only because of size, quite an odd decision from the judge. Otherwise the critique was excellent. Weezer took the first place in the females and got the Finnish CAC and CACIB and was BOS with the Winner title. Thank you for the professional handling to my friend Susanna Virtanen. Susanna is a well-known and successful Alaskan Malamute breeder and handler (Garcon kennel). The judge seemed a bit unsure when he saw this bold handler, among the hunters
breed, with a "mini skirt" who know what she was doing. The comments near the ringside were interesting. ;) It was nice to hear them when nobody knew the owner of these dogs. The lady who owns Super got a nice lesson, it is not that good to say everything out load. Unfortunately the handler who spoke English to the dogs and
to the judge was, surprise surprise, Finnish and understood the comments made next to her. This I can tell you that these dogs represent FULLY the pure
American Foxhound bloodline. I heard people say that these are not even
American Foxhounds. Unfortunately they are more than many of the dogs in Finland. My dogs are from AKC’s DNA tested/verified bloodlines.

In the Nordic Winner Show Äijä made it to second place and was
Best Dog-2 with a Cacib. This is a shame as the win was too close,
but no. The winner was a junior male from the same kennel where
Äijä came, kennel Senseo in Denmark. Super congratulations to
Heidi and Anders on their great success on both days! The junior
girls got a VG and Tytti made it 4th in the junior class in tough
competition. Great achievement, congratulations Mervi and Tytti!
For the American Foxhounds I needed a handler because the rings
were going on at the same time. Fortunately I had arranged things
before hand and I got Heli's friend Erika to handle for me. Erika
Niemi is a Great Dane person and has handled her dogs for years
successfully in big shows. She handled Bob and Weezer
professionally, their both critiques said that the dogs were
handled well. This time Bob god great praise, especially from his
movements. The judge said that "this male is a real
eye-catcher in movement" but his slightly large appearance
left him second in the Best Dog competition. Bob got an Excellent,
Finnish CAC and Reserve Cacib. Weezer was Best Bitch also today
and got a Cacib and was surprisingly also BOB with the NordW-09
title. So now we have the Finnish CAC's we need because Bob and
Weezer are American Champions. Weezer's Winner titles on both days
were great.
I showed Weezer in the group ring despite a long 350km drive home.
I wanted to show the audience and the judges a great American
Foxhound representative because the breed is not seen in the shows
enough. This time she had had enough of the tough show weekend and
she didin't move as well as she could have. We didn't get a
placement. We had a great weekend and I am very happy with the
success my dogs got. Thank you to the judges and the organizers. I
think the shows went without any problems, at least for me. The
Winner Shows had 17 000 entries. This is an amazing number of dogs.
Congratulations to the winner of the NordW-titles. their owners
and breeders in both breeds. Specials to Senseo, WOW!!!
Thank you to all owners of our dogs and our friend who I met at
the Winner Shows. These were great but tough show days. Thank you
for the cottage weekend to our "own" crew in Lempivaara.
We had fun but surely we could have slept more. Thank you to our
super cook Mervi for the tasty food! Thank you to the kennel boys
for helping with the crates etc, we were able to get things done
and everyone made it home safely. Super thanks to Anne for
grooming Äijä for the shows :) The second place is a shame, I
know, but I couldn't do any better ;) He is still in great lead in
the Show Dog competition. Let's see what next year will bring!

Äijä did great second time in a row, the second place in the
group was a great achievement! Miss Alice won the Champion class
and made it as Best Bitch second in a tough competition.
American Champions Bob and Weezer, who have succeeded well in
their native country America, had to settle for very good. In
Finland there have been no dogs in this breed before this who come
from pure dna tested bloodlines. Bob and Weezer are the first ones
who have full dna tested pedigrees and they only have pure
American Foxhounds in them. Because of this dogs with this kind of
top quality appearance may experience every sorts of critiques
from the judges because of their lack of knowledge... Only few and
select judges in this breed know what an American Foxhound should
really look like in appearance. Unsure judges are happy to give
out only Very Good because they don't know the breed well enough.
The show line in the American Foxhound is larger in size, this
makes them look more spectacular in addition to their gorgeous
moves. In shows what you judge is appearance!
This a real challenge for me and the people working together with
us, to bring the right type in apperance to the judges' knowledge.
Luckily there are a few judges in our country who know the breed
better. In Finland many of the judges have only seen 2-4 breed
representatives during their judging career. It is about time to
get more of these dogs in the show ring, this a great showy breed
who deserves more recognition also in the show ring in addition to
hunting use. We are expecting to have an interesting future with
this breed ;) And luckily we already also have a few homes in
store for the puppies who hunt. We are by no means forgetting the
breeds characteristics, but it is also nice to look at a beautiful
dog at home. This totally new bloodline is surely welcome to
others as well when thinking about breeding, whether it is from
the show line or not.
Thank you to the judges and we will send Tapsa a book about the
American Foxhounds and their history/appearance like Bob's and
Weezer's breeder hoped. Their breeder was shocked when she heard
the critiques. I think we must order a truck load of these books
;) Thank you to Heli for a great weekend at your place and at the
shows. In January we'll do it again in Turku!

Äijä came back in style after a well deserved break and won BOB with CACIB under the famous breeder-judge Dave
Killilea. He is the owner of the famous Redwitch American Akita kennel. Äijä did well also in the group by placing 4th under judge Hans Lehtinen.
It is great to continue to hunt for the points for the Show Dog 2010 competition after this. Äijä's and Irina's son Midian's Piece Of Art was second in the males
with a CAC and RE-CACIB. I am very happy about Pertti's great success. Big congratulations to owners Päivi and Mauri.

Finally I was able to make my long time dream come true, these gorgeous American Foxhounds have arrived in Finland.
Bob and Weezer came from Harold & Lisa Miller/Kiarry's kennel in Marylandista. This top kennel has bred American Foxhounds successfully for many years and
are also the President of the American Foxhound Club in the USA. Lisa is also a professional handler and has shown many breeds in large esteemed
shows. In co-operation with them I have a possibility to breed and and import new lines to enrich the
American Foxhound population here in the Nordic countries. Thank you to family Miller for this great opportunity you gave me, thank you for these beautiful dogs once again! Huge thank yous to Susanna
Virtanen/Garcon kennel for
bringing Bob and Weezer to Finland. Thank you to Heli for picking them up at the airport and bringing them to us. Thank you also to others involved for your help and

to our new male addition, NL Champion Kevin's Dream Akyoto
Our new boy arrived in Finland on Saturday and we are very pleased
to what we saw; a stylish and a compact male with a great posture,
movement and coat and a healthy structure. Thank you for this
gorgeous male to Cornelia Keizer. Akyoto will be living with his
co-owner Sanna Niemelä and her dogs Ilona and Hupi. We also got
our lovely Paavo back from Blanka and Michal in Poland during this
same trip. Paavo is in great condition and his head has gotten
even wider... I believe that he will be at his best at the age of
4 years. Paavo didn't know what to think at first but next morning
he was like he has always been. Thank you to everyone who made
this possible. Especially a big thank you for the arrangements,
trips etc. to Suski, Cornelia, Blanka, Sanna and Heli. We want to
thank Heli for taking care of Paavo and Akyoto for the beginning
of the week. It was great that everything went well. We will let
you know how both of these boys are getting on later on... And
they can be seen at the show in Seinäjoki, you are welcome to

4th-6th 2009 Our trip to Sweden
Heli and I left on Friday to take Lyyli to her new owner Helena
Pylvänäinen in Sweden. The boat left on Friday evening from
Turku and we were in Stockholm on Saturday morning. The boat trip
went without problems even though someone had decided to steal a
leash from our cabin door which was put there to ensure that while
we were away from the cabin Lyyli didn't open the door from the
inside. Luckily she had stayed in the cabin and no harm was done.
Thanks to the boat crew we got to lend their leash when taking
Lyyli for a walk. Great if someone really needed the leash. I hope
they get a lot out of it.. I hope they didn't take it to try to
strangle someone ;)) or themselves.
On Saturday we went to Högboks International Show first to see
Helena and her puppies which were in an official show for the
first time. Helena's had a male Niiro and a female Hoshi with her.
Both puppies received honor prizes so I got to handle one of them.
Hoshi was BOB Puppy and Niiro was BOS Puppy with great critiques.
Congratulations Helena! There were only 3 adults at the show so it
was a shame that we hadn's planned the trip better and taken our
own dogs at the show. Well next time then. At the end of the day I
got to handle Hoshi in the BIS Puppy ring. Hoshi was BIS-2 Puppy
out of 30 puppies under a Canadian judge, great result! Hoshi was
gorgeous and moved with style. I must say that when I saw her the
first time in the morning I was ready to take her with me to
Finland right that moment. :) She is coming to Finland together
with Helena for some shows in the future.
After the show we visited Helena's home quickly. Thank you to the
whole family for the tasty food and nice company. Lyyli stayed
there nicely to get to know her new home and and friends. It was
sad to leave her but I know she is in a very good home.
We did make it back to the boat after all. There was an accident
on the road back to Stockholm and the road was closed. We did
start to panic a bit when we realized that w really needed to
hurry if we plan to make it to the boat. It was down to 5 minutes
when we were the last ones to get a car to the boat which left in
5 minutes. When we got to the cabin we started laughing
hysterically. It was close that we wouldn't have made it! We had
planned to spend the night in Stockholm in a hotel if we wouldn't
have made it. We were in Finland on Sunday morning and I got home
on Sunday evening. The trip went well all in all. I got news from
Lyyli straight away that everything has gone very well and we will
share more greetings from Sweden in the near future.
A big thank you to Heli for the trip and company, we had a great
time!! Thank you to Helena and her family that Lyyli got such a
good home from you, good luck to all your hobbies! I miss Lyyli
but I know she is in a good home. Thank you for everything!

In this unofficial show only the class winners were chosen and
from them one winner, so no Best Dog/Best Bitch placements. The
class winners were awarded with great prizes, we got for example
three shows for our girls and myself etc. and the winners got
great diplomas to put on the wall. A Big Thank You to everyone at
the show, we had a nice day. It was especially nice to see the
veterans at such a good condition! Thank you to the judge for such
comprehensive critiques, many times there are only a couple of
lines said from the dog but now we had proper critiques with the
right things. Thank you to Erika for her 100% effort for the show!

It was great to see you and your dogs even though their coats were
not the best this time of the year. We did great and many got
tickets to the additional competition; Best Head, Best Tail, Best
Paws. :) The Best Head competition went this year to
Pertti (M. Piece of Art). Last year this prize was won by his sire Äijä,
Senseo Black Wizard. It was a shame that Äijä was not at the
show this year, his coat was totally off. Thank you for all the
handlers for their help! A big thank you to Mervi, Wiltsu and
Antti for a place to sleep. Congratulations to all who were
successful, especially the winners!!! A great day for the breed!

It was not an easy show in the hot weather in Helsinki, not even
with bald dogs
;) The coats of some of our dogs are at the moment poor but we
were still happy with our success. Alice rose to second place at
the bitches despite her brindle colour. This colour is very
challenging in the American Akitas because you have to be a
quality dog to succeed with this colour. At least with the judges
abroad. Pena did not show as nicely as he could have, he held his
tail all over the place and kept hanging it. Propably the heat got
to him; first nearly a 400km car drive in a hot car and then the
ring was in the hot sunny weather. It was no surprise but we are
happy. The winner dogs were in gorgeous coat and condition,
congratulations to the owners! Thank you to everyone at the show,
we had a nice and HOT day. Thank you to the judge.

15th-17th 2009 Vuolasvirta awards (2008) cottage vacation
Anne had planned a vacation for me and Tero at their summer
cottage in Konnevesi as a reward for the Vuolasvirta award. The
cottage was great in a gorgeous place in the middle of the nature
by a lovely lake. They had arranged everything at the cottage,
drinks and foods etc. There was peace and quiet, you could only
hear the birds, and a great sauna which was heated every day. We
did use it a lot.
A warm thank you for this relaxing vacation, you are great friends!

The critique from the breeder class:
Very handsome group. All the dogs are strong and friendly with a
healthy structure. Their heads are of correct shape. There are
slight differencies in the proportions. The dogs in the group are
almost identical also in colour. The breeder has great material
for success.

The show after Äijä returned home went great. We made it to
fifth in the group so that was a bit upsetting. Congratulations to
Pertti, Päivi and Mauri for Pertti's re-cac and to the old lady
Tara and her family for the BOB Veteran! Congratulations also to
Pilvi and her family for the great junior class win and the
placement in Best Bitch competition. Thank you to the judge!

We went to Denmark to get our golden boy, new Danish Champion
Äijä (Senseo Black Wizard) back home.
A warm thank you to Heidi and Anders (Senseo kennel) for the
unforgetable trip. Thank you for your hosbitability and it was
great to be apart of the finest Gala in Denmark. In the Gala there
were 110 most successful dogs in Denmark. Äijä also got the
honor of being in the competition and did great by making it in
the top 20 dogs. THank you once more for the great care and work
for our golden boy. The Gala was similar to the Finnish C&C
invitational Gala to which Äijä was also invited but this time
we were abroad. ;)

The 2008 Show Dog competition results were published in the
Finnish American Akita Clubs magazine. In the competition for
adults 5 best results were counted, 3 for the puppies.

The breeder group was not shown in the BIS ring because one of the dogs had come from many hundred of kilomters away. Because of this they could not stay as they would have gotten home in the middle of the night.. These group rings tend to always start so late.. It was a shem as there were only 3 groups in the ring so at least the 4th place would have been ours :) Thank you to the judge!

January 31st 2009 American Akita Top 20 invitational competition

The Top 20 Show was held after the Open Show. I would have had the honour of competing with several of my dogs, but some didn't have good coats at the moment and a couple are abroad attending shows so we were showing with a small number of dogs in the Top 20 competition.
In the Top 4 we had Midian's Intense Dragon "Into" and Midian's In Your Heart "Impi". Midian's John Wayne was cut from the first pair and Midian's Impressive Bear from the seconf pair. Congratulations to all the owners of our dogs and thank you for coming!
The competition was won by Black Wizard's Avec Wanted "Nuppu" who is out of Midian's parents. Huge congratulations to Anne and Nuppu, we almost had father and daughter together in the last pair ;)
Thank you to everyone for the nice atmosphere at Lahti, the event was very successful! Thank you to the judges and organizers!!

Three handsome offspring from Äijä's and Irina's first litter were at the same show in Teuva. This time our own boy Pena did the best but all of them seem to have a promising future, great structure, head, type, movement and temperament. This litter turned out great indeed. Akita puppies
American Akita puppies were born on January 8th to my co-owned girl Hupi (Midian's Julia Roberts) co-owned by Sanna
Niemelä. The sire of the litter is Polish import Paavo (Finigan Ak-Tan Callahan To Midian's). There were four puppies but unfortunately one was lost accidentally at the age of four days as the dam jumped on him by mistake. One female ant two males are doing great. Based on the early reservations all of them already have homes waiting for them. We will give more information when the puppies are ready to leave for their new homes.

On New Year's Eve Tosca's (Hessin Tosca) and Joe's (Moon Jumper's Joe
Cocker) lovely Beagle puppies were delivered into this world by
surgery. The first puppy got stuck and despite we moved fast we
lost 3 male puppies, 4 beautiful female puppies survived (2 red
& white and 2 tri-colored). Tosca and the pups are doing good. :)
These sweet girls seem to already have new owners but I will post
more information closer to the date when they are going to their
new homes.

A short
summary of the news from year 2008
I had the great honor to receive the Vuolasvirta Breeder Prize for
the breeding work I have done with the American Akitas. The prize
is awarded by the Finnish Kennel Club and it was the first one in
Finland to be given to an American Akita breeder. The Finnish
American Akita Club also gave credit with a great tribute; a
gorgeous painting in which are the dogs that started it all for
me. A warm thank you to everyone!
Five American Akitas bred by us gained their Finnish Champion
titles, 2 Russian Champion titles, 1 Polish Junior Champion title
and 2 International Champion titles.

In addition to these champions our American Akitas gained 15 CAC's,
8 CACIB's, 10 BOB's, 6 BOS's, group placements and a BIS-3
placement. Puppies were awarded with BOB and BOS wins as well as
group and BIS placements. Our American Akita Breeder Group was
shown couple of times as BOB and once even as BIS. Our co-owned
(Anne Granström/Kennel Black Wizard's) import male Fin Ch Senseo's Black
Wizards "ÄIJÄ" gained the most CAC's and other wins.
He was awarded with 16 CAC's, 15 BOB's, 20 CACIB's, many group
placements and on top of this 2 BEST IN SHOW WINS AT THE
JYVÄSKYLÄ INTERNATIONAL SHOW!! He was TOP 1 American Akita 2008
in Finland and placed 26th in the Finnish Kennel Club's Show Dog
Competion 2008!! Alice (Readbear's Always In My Heart To Midian's)
our Russian import lady did also great by winning 4 CAC's, BOB, 3
BOS's, Royal Canin BOB Junior, TOP-2 American Akita female 2008 in
Finland!! Pilvi (Midian's Piece Of Heaven) was Best Puppy 2008 and
Pena (Midian's Piece Of Magic) Best Male Puppy 2008.
In the Specialty Show for American Akitas we won 4 classes with
excellents, CAC, RE-CAC, a Champion title, Best Tail, Äijä was
awarded with Best Head and 2nd place in the males, Alice was 4th
in the females. Pilvi, Midian's Piece of Heaven, was BOS Puppy.
So far we have bred 21 Champions in the American Akitas, 5
International Champions and Champions of other countries. Four of
our Cockerspaniels are Finnish Champions.

In the tracking test we gained great Open and Winner Class
results. The first ever American Akita Tracking Champion in
Finland is Fin Ch & Tr Ch Midian's Endless Joy owned by
Marika Venemies. Thank you so much once again!
Many breeders have produced healthy and flashy dogs with good
temperaments from the dogs bred by us. Many promising puppies left
our home also this year.
I wish good luck and success to all our dogs and their owners; I
am already anxiously waiting how the young ones mature.

co-operation with us! Let's hope that this year will be even
